Meet Kjerstin
Hi, I'm Kjerstin Boorstein-interior designer, mom of three, and founder of Kjerstin Boorstein Interiors, a full-service design studio based in Anchorage, Alaska.
I believe your home should feel like an exhale: personal, functional, and layered with color and comfort. Whether you’re furnishing your forever home or refreshing a vacation rental, I make the design process feel collaborative, clear, and even fun.

How I Got Started
The short version? My design journey began when my architect moved to Australia.
The longer version? I had just moved back to Anchorage after ten years in Atlanta and was building a home for my family-a work-from-home dad, a former teacher turned homeschooling mom (me), and three growing kids. I'd always loved design, but with our architect gone mid-project, I found myself responsible for all the interior decisions: cabinetry, lighting, hardware, paint, and more.
Thankfully, I had already spent years sketching layouts, studying design books, and building skills in 3D modeling software. So I dove in. I learned what I needed to, documented every detail for our contractor, and made it all come together. And I loved every minute of it.
That house turned out just how I'd imagined-and soon, friends, neighbors, and even a census taker were asking for help with their own homes.
It turns out, what started as a personal project was really the beginning of something bigger - I just didn't know it yet.
Since then, I've helped homeowners all over Alaska (and in a few sunnier spots) design primary homes, renovate old ones, furnish vacation homes or rentals, and create spaces that feel like them.
Full-service interior design doesn’t have to mean “fancy”—but it might just feel luxurious to have an expert help you create the home you’ve been dreaming of.
Our Design Philosophy
At Kjerstin Boorstein Interiors, our design style is guided by three core tenets:
Functionality
Your home should work beautifully for your real life. We believe in thoughtful layouts, smart storage, and daily routines that flow with ease. There should be a place for your things—and room to breathe.
Classic Style
Style-wise, we lean timeless, not trendy. Light-filled rooms, coordinated finishes, and a strong foundation in classic design give your home longevity. We layer in personality through furnishings, color, wallpaper, artwork, collections, and unexpected touches that make your home uniquely yours.
Sustainability
Investing in quality, beautifully made furnishings is one of the most sustainable choices you can make—especially when those pieces are made in America, built to last, and crafted from natural or organic materials. We also love incorporating vintage, antique, or repurposed decor to add depth, character, and a sense of story to your home.
Our goal is to help Alaskans create homes that age beautifully—not ones that feel dated in a decade.

We're a Good Fit If…
You're ready for your home (or vacation rental) to be a reflection of your life. Maybe it's a new build, a recent move, or just time for a fresh start. You want each room to reflect your personality and lifestyle-with furnishings, color, and layers that make the whole house feel like home.
You love color and pattern-but second-guess your choices. You're drawn to beautiful, vibrant spaces, but worry you'll mess it up or get tired of it later. You want someone who can help you strike the right balance-and make it feel like you.
You're tired of wasting weekends wandering Anchorage's handful of furniture stores. You want a pulled-together home that feels intentional and complete-not pieced together from what happened to be in stock
You don't have time to manage dozens of moving parts. You'd rather trust a design pro to sweat the details, communicate with your contractor, and make sure the fi nished space looks as good in real life as it does in your head.
You're dreaming up a project in Hawaii-especially on Kauai-and want a designer who's just as excited about sunshine, local color and pattern, and creating the perfect island escape. (Hint: that's me.)
